Dr. Athanasios (Thanos) Porfyris holds a diploma in Chemical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). After graduation he prepared his Doctoral Thesis in the field of Polymer Science and Technology at NTUA, in close collaboration with the Research and Development Department of the Dutch company DSM IP ASSETS BV. After defending his PhD thesis, he was employed as external consultant by NTUA or other private companies, focusing on the experimental implementation and coordination of various National and European research projects. His broad field of expertise involves “Solid State Polymerization Processes of Condensation Polymers”, “Flame retardancy” and “re-stabilization of polymers” while his research work has been reflected in a series of peer-reviewed publications and presentations, as well as in two international patents.
